Church Organist On Sunday 8 th January, the congregation were welcomed to the glorious sounds of our organ being played by Geoff Bolton, organist at St Ninian’s Cathedral, Perth. He will now be attending services on the 2 nd Sunday of each month to play. During the last four months, we have enjoyed music from a talented group of individuals on Sunday mornings and this will continue.
Craft Group The Craft Group met on Tuesday 10 th January. As a warm up for the new year, it was decided that they would paint stones. Photo on left shows examples of what was achieved.
Christmas Quiz and Christmas Anagram Winners The winners of the two quizzes were announced on Sunday 15 th January. The Christmas Quiz was won by Jeeta Ouston and the Christmas Anagrams was won by Maria & Bill Page. Winners each received a gift token.
Craft Group At the end of January the Craft Group started on a patchwork project utilising hexagon templates. The ladies really enjoyed this and as can be seen are making great progress with their individual projects eg cushion covers, table centres, children’s toys.
Italian Night On Friday 10 th February, the Social Committee hosted an Italian themed evening. Guests participated in a table-top quiz, an Italian 2 course meal, a raffle followed by a sing-song accompanied by Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra. All who attended enjoyed a very successful evening and thanks to all the Social Committee and those who provided and donated the food and raffle prizes. The table-top quiz was won by ‘The Explorers’ who achieved 20 out of 20.
Diocesan Synod The Rector, Lay Representative and the Alternate Lay Representative attended the Diocesan Synod on Saturday 11 th March.
David Innes During the service on Sunday 12 th March, Chair of the Vestry, Bill Page presented David Innes with a gift and framed certificate to honour his long, loyal and dedicated service at St Peter’s serving many years in the Church Choir. David recalled attending Sunday School in the 1930’s under Miss Alice Foot.
Ladies Thursday Group On Thursday 16 th March, Ian Scott, who did part of his Lay Reader traing at St Peter’s, demonstrated ‘drystane dyking’ to the ladies. This involved building a wall without the use of any mortar, only relying on the size and shape of the stones to lock each other in place. During the afternoon the ladies constructed their own mini-wall with stones provided by Ian.
Mothering Sunday During the services on 26 th March, the ladies of the congregation were presented with a pansy brooch made by the ladies of the Craft Group. Not to be left out , all the gentlemen were given an inspirational bookmark. After the 10.30 service, the Fundraising Committee had a cake and stall and the Craft Group had Mother’s Day and Easter items for sale.
Easter Sunday The highlight of Holy Week was the Easter Morning Service. The congregation were treated to a magnificently decorated Church. The Service commenced with the lighting of the Paschal Candle and the Renewal of Baptismal Vows. There was a larger than expected congregation, in fact we ran out of Liturgies and Pew Leaflets and quite a few had to share. We sang joyous hymns and heard the retelling of the Resurrection Story. After the service, the congregation retired to the hall for hot-cross buns, cake and Easter goodies courtesy of the Social Committee. Geoff Bolton, our organist, then judged the Easter Bonnets competition and had a hard job deciding on a winner as all were of a very high standard. He eventually picked the creation made by Shona Briers, with Maria Page and Moira Kinloch being runners up.
Bishop David On Sunday 23 rd April, Bishop David and his wife, Alison, visited St Peter’s. This was Bishop David’s last visit before his retirement this summer. On behalf of our congregation, Vestry Chairman Bill Page presented Bishop David with a Celtic Cross and Jane Legge presented Alison with a beautiful basket of flowers which she had created for the occasion. After the service, the congregation retired to the hall for snacks and refreshments.
Patronal Festival A large congregation celebrated our Patronal Festival on Sunday 25 th June. During the service a special presentation of a certificate and a book of Celtic prayers was made to acknowledge the work done by Cliff Mwando. Cliff has moved down to London to take up new work commitments. As a lay member of our Ministry team, he has helped with services, been a reader and intercessor and has administered the chalice. After the service the congregation were treated to a special cake to have with their refreshments.
Ordination of Carol Latimer On 23rd July, Bishop David ordained Carol Latimer to the order of deacons in a moving service at St Andrew's church, St Andrews. This was Bishop David's last diocesan event before he retires as our bishop. Many clergy and Lay Readers gathered from across the diocese and beyond, and the church was packed with a large congregation there to witness Carol's ordination and pray for her onward journey in ministry.
Fish & Quiz Night On Friday 1 st September, the Social & Fund-raising Committee organised this well attended evening of fun and food. The format was slightly different from former years with the question sheets given to the teams of 3 or 4. Subjects included Commonwealth Capitals, Scottish Miscellany, How well do you know your Bible?, Railway Stations linked directly from Kirkcaldy, Correct Spelling and ‘Ologies. During the interval before announcement of the Quiz results, a raffle was drawn. The Quiz resulted in a very close result for 1 st and 2 nd but there was a 5 way tie for 3 rd . A total raised of the night after expenses was £264.00. During the evening a presentation was made to Mary Frew who was celebrating her 94 th Birthday.
Sunday 3 rd September After this morning’s service we were treated to cake to celebrate the birthday of Reverend Christine. She was presented with a bouquet by Shona Briers.
Cliff Mwando (Junior) During the service on Sunday 10 th September, Reverend Christine, on behalf of the congregation, presented Cliff with a certificate, card and gift to acknowledge his dedication to St Peter’s in his capacity of crucifer and server. He is leaving to continue his education at Heriot-Watt University studying Engineering. After the service Cliff (Senior) treated the congregation to a ‘moreish’ chocolate cake and mega-iced fairy cakes
Harvest Thanksgiving Our Harvest Thanksgiving service took place on Sunday 24 th September. The Church was decorated with some lovely floral displays. The congregation generously donated food which was displayed at the altar and after the service was donated to the local food bank. After the service the congregation sat down to a delicious selection of four home-made soups and roll lunch followed by tea/coffee and cake.
Rogerson Family Bequest On Sunday 29th October (All Saints Day), Christine our Rector dedicated a chalice and ciborium which were part of a bequest from the Rogerson family in memory of their parents Beryl and Jim who, for many years, played a very large part in our church and are much missed. The vessels are engraved and will be used at the Communion services on Sundays at 9.15am and on Wednesday mornings at 10am.
Pathhead Christmas Fair The Craft group had a successful morning at the above event on Saturday 2 nd December with a good attendance from the local community.
